Wisdom

There is this article in the morning papers that goes “Are you a carrot, an egg or a coffee bean?” It is interesting because the analogy is meaningful.

Subject each of them to the heat of a pot of boiling water and watch how they transformed. Immense a carrot in a pot of boiling water and watch how it softens from its original hard state. Watch how an egg in its malleable state hardens when cooked in boiling water. And watch how coffee bean (grinded into powder) blends in boiling water which gives off the aroma fragrance.

In life and in different situations, we really are a carrot, an egg or coffee bean. Some people soften when met with difficult situation just like how the carrot softens in hot boiling water but there are some that turn stronger just like an egg, subject to similar circumstances. And of course, there are many that are able to adjust to the environment change and blend well just like the coffee bean.

So, in what form of state should we be when we respond to situations? To a very large extent I believe it should be guided by our moral standard, tolerance level and adaptability power. At times we have to resist and say “No” to temptation when the moral standard is at stake. On other time we should be sensitive enough to understand that there are just differences in people and be tolerant and able to accommodate others showing the softer inner sides of ourselves. Of course, when survival of business is concerned, we need to keep update of the changes and adjust ourselves to keep pace and adapt to the ever-changing environment.

There is no one single form that we must adopt but we should learn and acquire the wisdom to make that right decision.
